Warwick Place is a new 40,000-square-foot energy-efficient office building in Marblehead, MA, designed and constructed by Groom Construction. Already featuring highly efficient reverse-cycling heat-pumps and all-LED lighting, the building was well suited for including a roof mounted solar photovoltaic system.
Groom Energy was engaged to design and implement a ballast-mounted solar PV system using Warwick¹s available roof space. Groom engineers specified the panels, racking and inverters and managed all aspects of the system delivery, including commissioning and the interconnection with the Marblehead Municipal Light Department. All major components were manufactured in the U.S and the system was turned live on December 31, 2012.
The 37 kW system will produce more than 40,000 kilowatt hours annually or about one-third of the Warwick¹s common area electricity usage. The renewable system also has the positive environmental effect of offsetting 19 tons of carbon annually.
