David Groom Chairman
David brings many years of construction management experience to his role at Groom Energy. He is the co-founder and managing partner of Groom Construction, where he manages daily operations and oversees significant construction projects throughout New England and the United States for customers such as Best Buy, Dunkin Donuts, Walgreens and many others. Throughout his career, David has founded and served as an advisor to many startup companies. He is also currently an operating manager of the McKinney Corporation, a commercial real estate company, and a co-founder of Tuckerbrook Alternative Investments, an alternative asset investment fund.
David is an active supporter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Joslin Diabetes Clinic and serves as a trustee for two charitable foundations. He is also a Board Member of the YMCA of the North Shore and Bantam Networks, a social network CRM software company. David earned his Bachelor of Arts from University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Jon Guerster Chief Executive Officer
As CEO of Groom Energy Solutions, Jonathan is responsible for strategy and overall operations. Prior to co-founding Groom Energy Solutions, Jon was a general partner at Charles River Ventures (CRV), a leading venture capital firm with $1.5 billion under management. At CRV, Jon was an active lead investor, board member or advisor for high profile software and service companies such as BeFree (acquired by ValueClick), eDocs (acquired by Siebel Systems), Vignette (VIGN), Virtusa (VRTU) and Xign Corporation (acquired by JP Morgan Chase).
Before CRV, Jon held senior management positions at Open Market, a start up ecommerce software company that went public in 1996. Prior to joining the early Open Market team, Jon served in a variety of senior product marketing and sales management roles with Hewlett Packard and J.P. Morgan.
Jon earned his MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Duke University, where he graduated with distinction. He is a co-founder and Board Member of Digital Lumens, an LED lighting company and is currently a member of Duke's Pratt School of Engineering Board of Visitors.
Bob Kirby Executive Vice President
Bob brings almost twenty years of energy engineering related experiences to his role at Groom Energy Solutions, co-leading our operations and business development related activities.
Prior to co-founding Groom Energy, Bob held multiple positions within Orion Energy Services, a Midwest-based manufacturer of energy efficient commercial lighting and other technologies. Bob began his tenure at Orion as engineering manager. From there he quickly moved from engineering to national account sales where he doubled revenues with a large customer base and was promoted to vice president of sales for the Northeast.
Earlier in his career, Bob spent eight years with Tecumseh Products Company, a Wisconsin-based manufacturing company. There, Bob held multiple roles including engineering manager, group plant engineer, maintenance manager and manufacturing manager, in which he focused on the efficiencies related to process, facilities and energy.
Bob attended University of Wisconsin Fox Valley and completed degree programs in Electromechanical Technology, Industrial and Facilities Engineering, Energy Management and Procurement.
Fritz Troller Executive Vice President
Fritz’s brings over 25 years of senior management experience in both the industrial and electrical distribution markets. In his role at Groom Energy Solutions, Fritz co-leads operations and business development related activities.
Prior to Groom Energy, Fritz was President of Poplar Consulting Group, Inc., providing strategic consulting services to manufacturers, distributors and private equity firms in the supply chain markets. Earlier in his career Fritz was a senior executive with WW Grainger. During his 10-year tenure with Grainger, he held several senior management positions in Integrated Supply, National Accounts, as well as the Industrial Supply Division. As Vice President of Grainger Integrated Supply, he co-founded and built the $240 M division into the industry’s leading Management Services outsourcing entity.
Fritz has a Bachelor of Arts from Miami University (of Ohio), in Marketing with an emphasis in Finance. He has authored several articles for industry publications and has been a noted speaker at many industry conferences including National Association of Purchasing Management, Council of Logistics Management, and the International Parking Institute.
Paul Baier Vice President, Sustainability Consulting and Research
Paul leads Groom Energy's Sustainability Consulting practice, which assists Groom Energy's customers with their sustainability and energy reduction strategies, carbon footprint, and responses to supply chain surveys such as Walmart Supplier Assessment and Carbon Disclosure Project.
Paul is the primary author of a large report on energy management software and publishes Groom's research report titled “The 2013 Buyers' Guide for Enterprise Carbon Accounting and Sustainability Software”. He also authors a sustainability blog, and moderates EnterpriseSmartGrid.org.
Prior to his current role with Groom Energy, Paul held multiple senior executive roles with enterprise software service and management consulting firms such as Authoria, Open Market, AOL and Deloitte Consulting. Mr. Baier earned his MBA from Harvard Business School and his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Kenyon College.
Nick Balster Vice President, Industrial Applications
Nick leads Groom Energy’s business with industrial market companies, delivering energy savings projects and services to companies with both discrete and process manufacturing businesses.
Prior to joining GES, Nick served as Corporate Energy Manager at Precision Castparts Corporation (PCC), a $6B Fortune 500 manufacturer of complex metal components and products. There Nick’s responsibilities included leading energy conservation and efficiency projects for PCC’s US and worldwide manufacturing facilities. His previous roles included Business Unit manager at PCC Wyman-Gordon Ltd and Operations Manager at PCC’s IPD Reed-Rico Operation.
Nick earned his Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is currently pursuing an MBA from Babson College.
Rob Davis Vice President, Systems Engineering
Rob leads Groom Energy’s Energy Consulting and Systems practice. He brings more than 25 years’ experience in industrial turbomachinery and refrigeration systems; ranging from 10,000 TR surface-cooling plant to utility-scale power-generation equipment. Rob has performed energy assessments covering more than 500 million cubic feet of refrigerated and freezer space, including all aspects of energy analysis on controls, chilling, distribution and operation of these systems.
Earlier in his career he served as Vice President, Director of Process Engineering andEnvironmental Compliance for Rizzo Associates, a national environmental engineering company. In addition, he has held senior management positions with other related fluid, mechanical, filtration-related engineering companies such as TRC Process Engineering, Air Purator Corporation, and Refinity Corporation.
Rob holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Natal and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, in addition to post-graduate programs in a variety of engineering-related areas. He is a professional member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; the American Institute of Chemical Engineers; the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering; the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers and the Air & Waste Management Association.
