WALMART AND CARBON REPORTING
SITUATION
Torani is an 85-year-old family-owned manufacturer of
premium specialty beverage flavorings sold to retailers and
coffee houses. Based outside San Francisco, CA, the company
has a strong history of community support and corporate
responsibility. Torani products are sold in a wide range of
retailers, coffee houses and restaurants including Cost Plus
World Market, Walmart, Kroger, Safeway, Second Cup and
California Pizza Kitchen.
As Torani considered how to broaden and refine its corporate
sustainability strategy, it retained Groom Energy Solutions.
PROJECT
The Groom Energy team led a three month development
process which produced Torani’s first carbon footprint,
Walmart Sustainability Supplier Assessment scorecard,
and refined sustainability strategy.
Working with the extended Torani team, Groom defined
boundary definitions; confirmed data gathered was accurate
and developed the reporting methodology and results. Groom
helped Torani to prioritize carbon abatement projects within
their operations.
RESULTS
The resulting carbon footprint and Walmart submittal
information provide the Torani organization a corporate
baseline for its sustainability efforts. By using these results,
Torani has been able to accurately portray its corporate
success to distribution partners and customers, which has
enhanced the company’s credibility, strengthened its brand
positioning and differentiated itself from its competition.
