COMPRESSED AIR CASE STUDY
SITUATION
Barry Industries is an internationally renowned supplier
of electronic components to the electronics and
communications markets. As they have high energy
use in their manufacturing processes, Barry’s team
engaged Groom Energy to identify opportunities for
making their Compressed Air System, a key part of the
manufacturing process, more energy efficient.
PROJECT
Groom Energy Engineers studied the existing systems
and identified several ways to cost efficiently upgrade
the equipement and recommission the entire compressed
air system. The key part of the upgrade included installing
a premium efficiency 50 horsepower rotary screw, variable
speed compressor system from Atlas Copco. In addition,
Groom Energy gained economic support for this project
from the local utility by conveying the results of their
study to the utilities engineering team.
RESULTS
Groom Engineers, in conjunction with one of the world’s
leading Air Compressor manufacturers Atlas Copco, installed
the new system, improving energy efficiency. Barry Industries
expects to reduce 190,000 kilowatt hours annually from their
operational costs and reduce their emissions by 188,000
pounds of carbon per year directly related to this investment.
