Account Manager, Carbon Disclosure Project
Keith manages CDP’s relationship with Walmart, which includes facilitating an initiative which invites Walmart’s suppliers to report their greenhouse gas emissions and reduction targets. Keith also manages CDP’s Product Carbon Footprinting research project, which explores the need for increased data reporting with a deeper level of granularity than currently reported by companies disclosing to CDP.
Previously, Keith worked in the investment management industry, both as a Project Manager in the UK, and then as a Risk Management Associate at BlackRock in New York. Keith has a Masters degree in International Relations and a BA Hons in Economics.
Frank Marino
Senior Manager, Corporate EHS, Raytheon
Frank is a Senior Corporate Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager at Raytheon.
He has 30 years experience in industrial EHS management, including the manufacture of computers, appliances, military hardware and aircraft. Frank has performed EHS audits of numerous company operations worldwide.
A graduate of the Universities of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, Frank holds a Master’s degree in environmental engineering from UMassLowell.
Frank is leading Raytheon’s effort in the area of sustainability, in particular, employee engagement. Frank will talk to you today about Raytheon’s journey in implementing a tool for sustainability employee engagement.
James Merrell
Director Environmental Stewardship, Diebold
At Diebold, Incorporated, a supplier of self-service transactions systems, James Merrell holds the position of Director, Environmental Stewardship. He is responsible for the development and execution of Diebold’s environmental strategy, policies, and performance.
With more than 25 years tenure at Diebold, Merrell has held a number of positions in the manufacturing, product planning, and marketing organizations, most recently as Director, Self-Service Marketing. Merrell has a lifetime interest in environmental concerns, and with his broad range of experience at Diebold is well positioned to work across organizational boundaries to lead Diebold’s environmental efforts
Merrell has a bachelor’s of science from Berry College in Rome, Georgia.
Nicola Peill-Moelter
Director of Environmental Sustainability, Akamai Technologies
As the Director of Environmental Sustainability at Akamai Technologies, Nicole oversees the strategy and execution of environmental initiatives across the company, including carbon management, energy efficiency and waste reduction, employee engagement and customer-awareness.
Prior to this Nicole held positions as senior product manager and principal solutions engineer. She has over thirteen years experience in high-tech communications including sales, marketing and innovative product design, development and management. Along with her expertise in Internet technologies, Nicole has a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College, a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering Science from Caltech, holds a U.S. Patent, and has a strong personal interest in renewable energy and sustainable technologies.
Dave Rapaport
Sr. Director of Corporate Consciousness, Seventh Generation
Dave Rapaport leads sustainability and corporate social responsibility initiatives for Seventh Generation as Sr. Director of Corporate Consciousness. Before moving into this role he served the company in a number of capacities, including responsibility for Advanced Innovation and New Business Development. His previous experience includes business and project development in the renewable energy industry, and two decades in the public policy arena in roles such as Executive Director of the Vermont Public Interest Research Group and various senior staff positions with the environmental organization, Greenpeace including directing their work on toxic chemicals and pollution prevention. He has been an adjunct professor at the University of Oregon and has worked as a consultant to UNICEF, the Swedish International Development Agency and the South Pacific Regional Environment Programme on issues related to sustainable development, waste management, sanitation and marine pollution. He currently serves on the Steering Committee of The Sustainability Consortium, a multi-stakeholder effort that includes leading consumer products companies and retailers that is developing analytical methodologies for product lifecycle sustainability measurement and reporting. Dave has served on the boards of numerous national and local organizations including Greenpeace USA, the State Environmental Leadership Program, Renewable Energy Vermont, and the Vermont Association of Conservation Voters.
David Rich
Associate, World Resources Institute
David Rich is an Associate with the GHG Protocol Initiative at the World Resources Institute. He focuses on the development of greenhouse gas accounting and reporting standards and emissions registries. Previously, David worked with the Climate Registry to develop a common GHG reporting protocol for use by companies across North America. He is currently developing new GHG Protocol standards for product life cycle and supply chain (scope 3) emissions accounting through a global multi-stakeholder process. He also focuses on mandatory GHG reporting to support regulatory policies, such as cap-and-trade. David holds a Masters degree in Energy and Environmental Analysis from Boston University and a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley.
Mark Rossi
Research Director, Clean Production Action
Mark Rossi is CPA’s Research Director where he is responsible for leading research efforts to identify safer alternatives to products of environmental concern. Mark has authored numerous publications including CPA’s Green Screen for Safer Chemicals and Healthy Business Strategies for Transforming the Toxic Chemical Economy. Mark is on the Steering Committee of Health Care without Harm. He is a Research Fellow at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Mark has a PhD in Environmental Policy from MIT and has worked since 1989 promoting safer alternatives to toxic chemicals and materials.
Ruth Silman
Partner, Nixon Peabody
Ruth Silman concentrates her practice on complex environmental and land use matters. She represents clients concerning the land use implications of complex real estate transactions, including zoning, environmental impacts, permitting and compliance, and has appeared before numerous municipal boards seeking zoning, wetlands and other permits. Ruth provides support to real estate transactions, including due diligence and advice regarding appropriate contractual protections and environmental insurance. She has represented clients before state and federal courts and administrative agencies in environmental and land use litigation matters. Ruth’s extensive environmental experience includes addressing air quality, hazardous waste assessment and remediation, brownfields redevelopment, wetlands protection, stormwater, wastewater, septic system and water quality issues at the federal, state and local level. She is involved in a number of renewable energy efforts, including representing wind power developers. Ruth also advises clients regarding health and safety issues, environmental management systems and environmental audits. Ruth earned an JD from Boston University School of Law and a BA from Cornell University.
Jay Spencer

Jay Spencer is an Ernst & Young audit partner in the Boston office who works with and advises management teams and audit committees in a variety of industries, including energy, technology and industrial products. Jay is the Cleantech Market Leader for Ernst & Young’s Northeast area. In this role, he works with renewable energy companies as well as early-stage start up cleantech enterprises.
Emma Stewart, Ph.D.
Senior Program Lead, Sustainable Business and Operations, Autodesk
Emma Stewart, Ph.D., is currently the Senior Program Lead of Autodesk's Sustainable Business & Operations program. In this role, she leads the design software company's efforts to optimize its environmental footprint and model sustainability best practices to its 9 million architect, engineer, manufacturing, and construction customers.
Prior to that, she founded and directed the Environmental R&D Division at Business for Social Responsibility, where her team designed corporate initiatives to analyze and adapt to 'horizon' issues such as payments for ecosystem services, water footprinting, carbon offsets and trading, climate lobbying, and sustainable product design.
Emma is a regularly featured columnist for Harvard Business Leading Green, Environmental Leader, and ClimateBiz and her work has been covered by the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Financial Times, Global Finance, The International Herald Tribune, and Fast Company, among others. In 2007, she was named a Next Generation Fellow by the American Assembly and in 2005, she received the Bernard Siegel Award for Outstanding Research and Publication. She sits on the Green Technology Steering Committee of the World Economic Forum and is a member of the Board of ODC/San Francisco.
Emma holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Management from Stanford University and a B.A. Honours degree in Human Sciences from Oxford University.
Jim Sullivan
Strategic Advisor, SAP
James (Jim) Sullivan brings over 18 years of experience to his role as strategic advisor for sustainability at SAP. Jim joined SAP in June 2009 with the Clear Standards acquisition. In his current role, Jim is responsible for providing strategic advice to help prospects, customers, partners and analysts identify and achieve tangible return on investment through proactive environmental management and for helping them understand and employ technology solutions to profitably reduce carbon and other environmental impacts across global business operations. Prior to joining SAP, Jim was Vice President of Advisory Services at Clear Standards. Formerly Director of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Leaders program, Jim is an internationally recognized expert on policies and measures to combat climate change. Jim’s previous work included developing and analyzing performance metrics for U.S. climate programs and serving as an expert reviewer of the European Union’s climate policy. Prior to his service at EPA, Jim worked at Skadden, Arps as an environmental specialist. Jim represents SAP on the technical committee of the WRI GHG Protocol Product/Supply Chain initiative. A frequent speaker at environmental and climate change related events, Jim is a strong advocate of industry efforts to implement meaningful, verifiable energy efficiency and carbon reduction programs. Jim holds a Masters of Science from John Hopkins University and a BA in History from Brown University.
Alexander (Sandy) Taft
Director, US Climate Change Policy, National Grid
Sandy Taft is an environmental professional with 23 years of experience. Serving the first three years in the consulting industry for Haley & Aldrich, Inc. a Cambridge Massachusetts based environmental and geotechnical consulting firm and the last 20 in the utility industry. This work included serving as the Director of Environmental Management for Boston Gas Company and then for KeySpan Energy Delivery’s New England Territory. With the acquisition of KeySpan by National Grid Sandy was named Director US Climate Change Policy and is now focusing on the implementation of National Grid’s US Climate Change Initiatives in the United States.
Sandy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from St. Lawrence University and a Master of Science in Geology from Kent State University.
Sandy is a past Chair of the American Gas Association’s Environmental Matters Committee. Presently, Sandy is serving as Chair of the newly created Environment and Energy Committee of the New England Chapter of the British American Business Council. In addition he represents National Grid on the New Hampshire Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership and is serving as Treasurer.
Paul Baier
VP of Sustainability Consulting, Groom Energy
Paul Baier leads Groom Energy's Climate Consulting practice, which assists Groom Energy's customers with their sustainability strategies and GHG inventories. Paul recently co-published Groom's research report titled "Enterprise Carbon Accounting" and authors a sustainability blog. Paul has been active with the emerging national organizations focused on GHG emissions and climate impact, representing Groom Energy at associations such EPA Climate Leaders, The Climate Registry, Carbon Disclosure Project and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
Prior to his current role with Groom Energy, Paul held multiple senior executive roles with enterprise software service and management consulting firms such as Authoria, Open Market, AOL and Deloitte Consulting. Mr. Baier earned his MBA from Harvard Business School and his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Kenyon College.
Jonathan Guerster
CEO, Groom Energy Solutions
Prior to co-founding Groom Energy Solutions, Jonathan was a general partner at Charles River Ventures (CRV), a leading venture capital firm with $1.5 billion under management. At CRV, Jonathan was an active lead investor, advisor or board member for high profile software and service companies such as BeFree (acquired by ValueClick), eDocs (acquired by Siebel Systems), Vignette (VIGN), Virtusa (VRTU) and Xign Corporation (acquired by JP Morgan/Chase).
Before CRV, Jonathan held senior management positions at Open Market, a start up ecommerce software company that went public in 1996. Prior to joining the early Open Market team, Jonathan had served in a variety of senior product marketing and sales management roles with Hewlett Packard and J.P. Morgan.
Jonathan has an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Duke University. He is currently a member of Duke's Pratt School of Engineering Board of Visitors and The Museum of Science, Boston's Board of Overseers.
